The Commemara Photography Tour and Workshop will bring you to a number of known and lesser known places around West Galway and Mayo.

The tour begins with photographing Pines Island at sunrise at the foot of the Twelve Bens mountains on the southern tip of Derryclare Lough. From there we travel north to Lough Inagh where we will photograph across the lake towards the Twelve Bens mountain range, capturing them from a different angle. When we have finished shooting at Lough Inagh we will travel north to Leenane where we will stop for lunch and take in the breath-taking views of across Killary Fjord, which is a photo opportunity in itself.

After lunch we will take a short drive to Aasleagh Falls where we will spend some time photographing both the lower and upper falls. We will then move north again to the northern end of Doo Lough where we will shoot south across the lake with a mountainous jaw dropping backdrop. We will then start our journey south with some quick photo stop opportunities along the way, finishing up at Screebe where we will photograph the Screebe Waterfalls and the Fisherman’s Cottage where we hope to capture some nice sunset shots before the sun retires behind the mountains to mark the end of the day.

This workshop is an intense workshop designed for those who want to take their hobby to the next level. Participants will be pushed to use manual mode on their cameras. You will learn about using polariser and ND filters to create long exposures.

How long will the tour be?

The tour starts before sunrise (6:00am) and ends after sunset (approx. 8:30pm).

Who is the tour for?

The tour is for anyone who has an interest in photography, in particular, landscape photography.

What type of camera gear do I need?

This is a long exposure workshop so you will need a DSLR  or Mirrorless camera (crop or full frame), a wide angle lens (the wider the better, but a 50mm will also do fine), ND filters (to shot long exposures during the day), something waterproof to cover your camera in case it rains (a light plastic bag or shower cap will do).

Will there be breaks?

Yes, there will be a breaks for lunch along the route. I would also advise to bring a packed lunch and a hot drink in a flask. We will be stopping in locations where there will be use of toilet facilities, but please be aware that the majority of the trip will be away from any facilities.
